| Subject: Theories, Debates, and Speculation Rules Sat Jun 08, 2013 6:52 pm | |
| I know. More rules. I'm placing rules in this area because it will contain debates. Debates can, sometimes, create conflict and drama. Le Rules 1. All WLL rules apply here (bet you didn't see that one coming). 2. Topics have to be about the Avatar series in content but of course can be about any aspect of the Avatar series. 3. Remember to be respectful and polite. Especially in debates. These are meant to be formal, civil arguments, not hating on each others' opinions/ideas/etc. Very easily a debate can turn heated and we want to avoid that as much as possible. 4. Please try to make it clear what type of thread you are making. That may sound a little funny, but please try to make clear if your thread is a theory, a debate, or a speculation. Theories/speculations often run close together and often times, theories can stem into debates as one tries to defend their point of view. So, I'm not going to be so picky as to make you title your thread "theory" or "debate". But try to make it clear so that way nobody is necessarily jumping the gun and debating what is supposed to be a theory discussion. 5. Remember that this is all in good fun. At the end of the day, the series and its characters are not real, they are not going to be real, and we're all discussing fiction. Le Tips Having been a moderator of a theories and debates section, I am going to offer tips for people to keep in mind when they are participating in this section. Tip 1. Just because you decided to jump into a debate, does not mean you have to stay in the thread until the end. You really are not obligated to stick around. If you feel yourself getting increasingly frustrated with a topic, politely and gracefully bow out. You aren't doing yourself any favors other than upsetting yourself and making it so you never want to be in this area anymore. You WILL encounter stubborn people. Tip 2. If you find yourself going in circles and you are frustrated, you are allowed to leave the debate. Pretty much the same as Tip 1. Basically, at any time you feel like you do not want to participate anymore, you do not have to. You can withdraw from the debate. Tip 3. If you find someone being rude to you and making you feel inferior, please let the admin in charge of members know in a private PM. Also, try to work it out at the same time privately through PM with the member you are having conflict with. If you cannot resolve it, then do not respond to the person you are having a conflict with in the thread anymore. There will be other members posting their opinions/ideas, so just respond to them instead. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." -Eleanor Roosevelt |
