A peculiar character with a lot of speculation about him. He never spoke and only used firebending with his mind, channeled through his "third eye" tattoo. With his firebending so concentrated, his bending resulted in explosions, making him extremely powerful and dangerous.

And we're given no explanation to him.

So, who is this guy? How is he able to channel fire through his tattoo to cause an explosion? How come he never talks?

One rumor, apparently, was that he was an injured Fire Nation soldier that was healed using experimental methods, which allowed him to firebend with his mind o_o

i'm not entirely sure what it means, but i did notice and think it's kind of significant that he takes a deep breath whenever he goes to make an attack? i could be remembering wrong, it's been a while since i've seen the series, but i think he did.

idk why or what importance it holds, but i think the tattoo helps him channel and focus his fire-bending energy, and that's also what makes it like an explosion, like he is 'combusting' things.

Well, Firebending comes from a couple sources. It was taught by dragons. It comes from your inner heat/breath (enhanced by the sun). So it was probably breath control. I mean, he had such powerful attacks. Also:

And yes, the tattoo is how he focuses his bending. But it's a really unique form of Firebending that you only saw through him.

I prefer to call him Sparky Sparky Boom Man. As an assassin, he was probably trained not to speak so as not to give anything away. When you have a talent for being fiercely strong, might as well make some money for it.

Didnt he always take a deep breath before he used his bending? I could be wrong it's been awhile since I watched book 3.

yeah, Hanasakuya mentioned that since fire bending can come from a couple different sources, it was probably breath control that helped make his attacks so powerful and therefore requires an intake of breath.
